Daily life of the subarctic natives
Daily life of the subarctic natives consisted of Hunting, shelter, clothing and adornment, transportation, and trade/economy. While hunting, the men would often use one of many types of different traps. Because the land in the subarctic region was too treacherous, farming was never an option. Primarily they only hunted Moose, Caribou and when fishing, Whitefish, Jack fish, Graying, and trout.
Shelters built by the people were always different each time depending on the terrain where they camp. They had no hammers, nails, or saws to work with. However, they did have stone axes (for gathering timber).
When it came to clothing and adornment they did not have any sheep to provide wool so they would often resort animal skins. Hides took long amounts of time to process and decorate. Subarctic natives used snowshoes on their feet to traverse the land. Women wore dresses or leggings. Everyone wore moccasins. The men wore shirts, jackets, or snowsuits. Special decorations were put on most clothing.
Transportation in the subarctic region was very limited, long snowshoes and and Dogrib moccasins had to be worn to walk on snow. They also made toboggans. To travel over waters, the native had built canoes and kayaks.
In the 1800s the very first fur traders came to North America. They would bargain with the natives trading exotic furs for goods made in Europe. This was very prosperous for the natives because they had the experience to easily gather skins and furs.
