Social organization of the subarctic natives
The subarctic people had a different social and family organization than us nowadays. They had no school so they learned there own ways to support themselves by watching and helping their elders. Women married young, once old enough they were secluded in a hut, where they were taught to be a good wife. But most bands didn't even have a formal ceremony for marriage and it was possible for men to have more then one spouse. Almost everyone was married for survival purposes. Men's first kill was very important. Each time he caught a new breed of animal, a ceremony of sharing the kill was performed. Once he was proved of being a good provider of meat, he was ready for marriage. Work was divide between men and women. Women food housework and some small hunting. Men hunted, fished, made equipment, etc. Women gave by themselves, or were helped by their husband or midwife. After the baby was born, the woman wore the baby on her back.
GOVERNMENT
The subarctic people had no set government. They followed the advice of their elders. They treated each equally. Whether they were a women, a man, a boy, or a girl. Men usually made decisions for their own family. There were no formal chiefs until the white people came. Then if a an wanted to be a chief he held frequent potlatches.
WARFARE
The subarctic people did not participate in much war. They crafted their weapons from bones, ivory, claws, and antlers. They had animals or symbols carved into them. The only war like things they participated in were raids or sneak attacks, in which they would sometimes kidnap women or horses. These things were usually prompted by ancient feuds or revenge for a murdered relative. Much pressure was put upon young men to participate.
